The Ozone Yakuza GT is Ozone's full-race kite for expert users wanting to go seriously fast on land or snow. Designed for the kiter looking for absolute performance. The original Yakuza and now the Yakuza GT have been developed by the most diverse and technically minded team within the kiting industry.
It's the kite to use if you are wanting to take part in any type of speed competitons.
By integrating profile technologies learnt from both kite and paraglider developments, Ozone have built a very high-speed kite which produces low drag when tacking at slower speeds.
For the less technically minded, this simply means there is much less chance of being lifted out of your buggy.
A sophisticated inboard braking system, a semi closed leading edge and a high aspect ratio combine to help the Yakuza GT deliver smooth power both across the window and through the turn.
This is a highly efficient and clean wing designed for ultimate performance.
Ozone Yakuza GT Design Process:
Ozone has worked closely with highly successful buggy racers including World Champions and National Champions to perfect what has become the benchmark in race kite technology. The design process on a high aspect kite like the Ozone Yakuza GT is very involved; a race kite needs to perform in a wide variety of conditions, upwind, downwind or any direction you choose and be able to go as fast as possible whilst maintaining stability and low-end pull.
Beside a plus on speed Ozone have worked on more stability and general user friendliness. There is still the typical Ozone Yakuza feeling in the kite and there is still heaps of extra power you can get through the brakes.
Everything works very intuitive and riders new to the Yakuza GT won’t need much time to get used to it.
The smaller Yakuza GT kites (<4.5m) have a special profile and planform. Ozone found out the advantage of having a slightly less performance kite is therefore safer and easier to handle than having a crazy kite the rider is scared to use in gusty conditions. Ozone also didn’t want the kites to be ridden by their Pro race team that can handle almost any kite. The Ozone Yakuza GT is the kite if you want to look into racing or just looking for the most powerful and fastest kite on the market to brake your personal records.
The bigger sizes >10m of the Yakuza GT's have also been used as the low wind power houses for loads of snowkite expeditions through Greenland, Antarctic and Canada. Eric, Sarah and Curtis from the Pittarak expedition were adding 12 and 14m Yakuzas for the first time to their quiver when they were crossing Greenland from south to north in 2008. They staked up 2 sets of 30m Lines and were able to snowkite even if they couldn’t feel a breeze on the ground which gave them a big advantage making distance.
For heavy weight buggier and snowkiters that travel with heavy equipments and sleds Ozone have made a 17m version which will pull you like a tractor in less than 5 knots winds.
Construction:
Hand-checked Ozone factory construction:
Utilizing highest grade Oztex 40d ripstop nylon fabric and pre-stretched dyneema control line throughout. This translates to the kite flying in lighter winds and a greater wind speed to power generated ratio and as the kite can penetrate the window deeper the up wind ability is superb. The stability is kept even with less bridling by the use of Diagonal-Rib construction, a method of strengthening the kite from inside to enable less support from the bridles.
Internal diagonal rib structure:
Reduces bridles helping to eliminate line drag distortion and manifests in a true feel for the interaction of kite with wind.
Mylar Edged:
Aerodynamics tells us that the leading edge and the trailing edge are the two most critical lines in an aerofoil section. Ozone kites are Mylar taped on the leading edge, giving a more rigid structure, a clean and efficient aerofoil, and absolutely zero stretching. The Mylar tape effectively locks the sail shape, meaning your kite keeps it’s factory trim. For the trailing edge Ozone roll the seam twice and stitch to give a soft and clean exit for the airflow.
Double Stitched: Ozone Yakuza GT kites are double-needle stitched, making them stronger and more durable than single line stitching in the event of the kite being dragged over rough ground. Even the thread used for stitching the lines and sail is UV-bonded, further adding to the strength and life-span of our kites. Every seam is checked to within 0.5 mm; a look at the colour-scheme accuracy and the inside of the seams of our kites will highlight this fact.
Bridle Lines: Ozone's aim when designing the bridle lines is to use the least amount of line possible, to minimise parasitic drag through the air, resulting in a more performant kite. Kite design has advanced to the point where the accuracy and diameter of the line lengths is vitally important. To achieve this accuracy, Ozone use the highest quality Dyneema lines which are stitch finished for extra strength and less drag.
World Championship Winning:
In the race season 2008 world champion and 5 time german champion Björn Krautschick, was using the Ozone Yakuza GT prototypes with which he managed to win the championship once again. The Ozone Yakuza GT gave him the right advantage against all the others. Imaging in one race he started late from the last position, fought hard and took all he could out of his Yakuza GT. Few meters before the finish line he had overtaken everyone and even passed the person in lead. Björn reported he was able to go much more upwind than anyone else and was also the fastest on the speed course giving him the necessary advantage to also win that race.
If you want to be the fastest or feel the need to have the most powerful kite possible in your quiver then the Yakuza GT is the kite for you.
The Ozone Yakuza is available in the following sizes: 2.5m, 3.0m, 3.7m, 4.5m, 5.5m, 6.8m, 8.3m, 10m, 12m, 14m and 17m
